As we all know PRIORITY, the ability to activate ignition effects without the opponent responding to the summon, is now gone. With that information in hand many anticipated the Inzektor deck to rise from the top 3 decks and take the number 1 spot. Unfortionatley that did not happen in YCS Chicago.
Congrats to 2 time YCS winner, Billy Brake, for his dominating a field of over 1,100 people and taking 3rd place with his main and side deck tech choices. He was able to take the deck to a higher level than anyone has been able to before. What is even more amazing is that he picked up the deck only a couple of days before the event due to his customary deck, Wind-UpToys, got hit hard with the new priority ruling. This just shows you what great skillful player he is.
With priority now gone he ran the max number Effect Veilers. Doing this now allowed him to have a better chance of beating the dino rabbit deck and the mirror match. This also allowed him to play on of the best top deck cards in the game, Black Luster Soldier Envoy of the Beginning.
He also played the standard monsters of the inzektor engine, Inzektor Hornet, Inzektor Dragonfly, Inzektor Centipede and Inzektor Giga-Mantis. But what was surprising to see was him using Inzektor Hopper instead of Card Trooper. I agree with this move since Card Trooper is a 1700 attack monster that can be used as another target for an in grave Inzektor Hornet. It is also has the effect of letting you attach it to any other inzektor for a direct attack. Now that’s a great effect when you absolutly need to get that last bit of damage in.
Don’t get me wrong, Card Trooper is a great card. I like the fact it can boost it attack to 1900 and allow you put cards into the grave. You could possible put an Inzektor Hornet or Inzektor Dragonfly in the grave that can be brought back to the field with Call of the Haunted. But not being able to attach an Inzektor Hornet to it or not being able get that last bit of attack in makes this a lower card than Inzektor Hopper. Good call on your part Billy.
One of the stand out cards in his deck was Safe Zone. This card is amazing in the mirror match up. Not only can it save your monster, it can kill off your opponents monster too. If you have Safe Zone set and they activate anything to destroy it, you can chain it and target one of your opponents monsters. Then Safe Zone is destroyed and activates it effect of destroying the monster it was attached to. Now that is super duper surprise.
Now his side deck and extra deck also had tech cards in it. His secret tech card he had against Hero Beat Dino Rabbits and any high attacking monsters was none other than Messenger of Peace. The effect of this card is as follows:
Neither player can declare attacks with face-up monsters that have 1500 or more ATK. During each of your Standby Phases, pay 100 Life Points or destroy this card.
So buy paying a minor 100 life points all your monsters can’t touch me. Then when I’m ready to attack you, I can blow it up with my Inzektor Hornet and hit you over the head with my big monsters. Now most Hero and Dino Rabbit decks don’t have that many resources to take out this annoying spell. Nice tech choice on your part Billy!
Go check out his entire deck with side and extra too.
