Mono Mermail Deck List Review Oscar Zelaya 2013 YCS Auston Winner

Mermail Abysslinde YuGiOh Card GameSo the winning deck for the first YCS of this season is Mono Mermail. Just last YCS Billy Brake created this version and came in 3rd place. Are we going to see this as the standard version of this super fast deck? Only time will tell.

Congrats to 1st time YCS winner, Oscar Zelaya, for his dominating a field of over 1300+ people with his agressive and dominating deck. He had an epic battle in the finals against Fire Fists. Being able to make it to the finals in a format that had so many Mermail, Fire Fist and Rogue decks in the top 32 shows that Oscar is a very talented and skilled player.

I’m very surprised to see this deck make it all the way since everyone is packing main deck or side deck hate for it. I even wrote an article “YuGiOh Cards To Fight The Mermail Deck“. But some how Oscar was able to fight through 2 days of dueling to become our new champion.

Oscar’s build is almost the exact build Billy Brake took to YCS Miami. Oscar’s build did not play any Forbidden Lance. But replaced one of those copies with a teched Mind Control. This card is good against the mirror. He has the option of taking his opponents Mermail Abyssmegalo or Mermail Abyssteus and XYZ into Mermail Abyssgaios or Number 11: Big Eye. Doing that can swing the game in his favor for sure.

I was very surprised to see his teched trap cards, 2 Royal Decree. This may seem a bit odd at first, but think about how good this is in the mirror. His opponent activates Abyss-sphere or Abyss-Squall he then can chain this to them. This also prevents his opponents from stopping his play or big pushes. Can it say no to Torrential Tribute and Mirror Force? I believe it could.

So check out Oscar’s complete deck list including extra and side below.

tcg really made a mistake by not adding anything from this list into the ban list. without cards like diva being limited this will likely become the only deck in the format and thus a very bad season for the game

@truthspeaker – I feel some what the same. But with new sets coming out next month and beyond, I feel things will even things out. But for the current time I feel the same way.

even with the new cards coming out this will essentially become a money game again. They encountered this problem before a couple years ago when the game became so fast that many players quit. No one enjoys sitting there turn 2 watching your opponent string together an otk. Also, they didnt mention it but the top 8 was all mermail. its kind of sad when the only thing you have to tech against is a mirror match. This is a sad day for Yugioh

I can beat this guy out with evilswarms or gravekeeper’s. I just need the money. Its all about the money.

Well it seems like a good deck but for it to be in the top ten must seem boring even though I’m a noob ever since the 5ds series came out but that brotherhood of the fire fist seems like it should have been in the top 3

I beat a similar mermail build with my karakuri(+ naturia synchros)… Just a matter of strategy and luck…
