Pongyue Moua YCS Philly Top 32 Flamvell Deck Review

Flamvell Firedog YuGiOh Cards GameNow that YCS Philly is over we can take a look at what new decks have come out. One such deck took 2 spots in the top 32. I’m sure it took a lot of people by surprise, it normally does. The deck I’m talking about is Flamvells.

You’re probably sayin, “I don’t think that deck is any good!” Most people think that, even Dale Bellido. But you will only see its true power untill you start playing it. How would you feel being able to quickly synchro summon level 8, 7, 6, and 5 monsters and do it again in one turn?

You will be able to summon game changing monsters such as Stardust Dragon, Scrap Dragon, Red Dragon Archfiend, Colossal Fighter, Goyo Guardian, Black Rose Dragon, Ally of Justice Catastor and Brionac Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Are these the type of monster you want to be able to summon? Yup! Me too.

I’m very happy about this deck getting recognized since I’ve been playing them for some time now and will get some new ideas of building the deck. Not just our previous Flamvell Monarch deck.

Here is our latest build of this deck:

Pongyue Moua piloted his Flamvell Deck to a Top 32 finish this weekend, using 5 different Flamvells in his Main Deck, Flamvell Firedog, Flamvell Magician, Flamvell Baby, Flamvell Grunika, and Flamvell Archer. His deck can build up a huge Graveyard and then makes a game-winning play with Rekindling, or just use his big monsters like Flamvell Firedog to gradually chip away at his opponent’s Life Points and build up a field. The versatility of his deck made it tough for a lot of his opponents to beat.

Since Flamvell Baby is a Level 1 Tuner, Flamvell Archer is a Level 3 Tuner, and Flamvell Magician is a Level 4 Tuner, destroying a monster with his Level 4 Flamvell Firedog allows Moua to quickly Synchro Summon a Level 5, Level 7, or Level 8 monster. Being able to choose between monsters like Ally of Justice Catastor, Black Rose Dragon, or Stardust Dragon after destroying a monster with Flamvell Firedog is a powerful ability in the Flamvell toolbox.

Moua says his favorite play is to use Book of Moon to put an opponent’s monster face-down so that his Flamvell Firedog can attack over it. Moua also likes to Tune his Flamvell Tuners with Flip-Effect Monsters that have used their effects, including Super-Nimble Mega Hamster and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, to Summon his strongest Synchro Monsters.

While Moua’s Deck has tons of cool plays and interaction between the monsters themselves, Rekindling brings his Deck to higher level of competition. A single Rekindling can turn the Duel in Moua’s favor and allow Moua to grab a victory from the jaws of defeat, just like it did in his Round 10 Feature Match. No matter how few cards are in Moua’s hand or on his field, Rekindling can flood Moua’s field with Tuners and non-Tuners, allowing him to finish off his opponent in a single turn.

Moua’s Deck uses Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Charge of the Light Brigade, and Card Trooper to feed his Graveyard with Flamvell monsters. Every Flamvell monster Moua gets into his Graveyard raises the strength of his Rekindling by letting it Summon more monsters, and increasing Moua’s options for Synchro Summons due to the Level-variety of his Flamvells.

Decks using Flamvell Firedog and Flamvell Magician have been popular for a while, but no one has ever topped a YCS with the Flamvell dedication that Moua has shown here this weekend. Moua’s success may inspire Duelists to try out other Flamvell cards and explore the theme’s full potential.

Congrats to Moua, but I would have played some different cards with his build. Here are the changes I would make:

Take Out:
1 – Flamvell Baby (I like the surprise boost and adding a flamvell to the grave. But the purpose of using him as a tuner is not getting to me. I’d rather use and archer and ryko to get my level 5 synchro)

1 – Necro Guardna (I see why he can help. Works well with ryko and is amazing if it’s in the grave and you get cold waved. But I would rather have a different monster.)

1 – Card Trooper – (It does put more cards into your grave and also replaces itself when it leaves the field. But I would rather not loose so many cards to the grave. The deck already has 3 rykos and 1 light brigade)

1 – Effect Veiler (I don’t like to be holding this card in my hand waiting for my opponent to do something. I’d rather have a card that I can use now!)

1 – Smashing Ground (I like the one for one removal. But I would rather either book of moon, enemy control or shrink the monster so I can gain bonuses with either Firedog or Grunika)

1 -Phoenix Wing Wind Blast (I see it as a way to send a flamvell you have in your hand to the grave and gain tempo with it’s effect. But I would rather play the card in my hand and gain tempo a different way)

Put In:
1 – Flamvell Grunika (dealing extra damage to your opponent is key in this environment. Many people are using solemn warning and 7 tools of the bandits. They are just daring you to try and get there remaining life points to 0)

1 – Flamvell Archer (level 3 tuner is good. But also tributing him to boost your other flamvells up is great)

1 – Book of Moon (works with Firedog and Grunika. Get one of the other tuner or deal more damage to the opponent. Also can stop your oppenent from syncro summoning and preventing an attack)

2 – Enemy Controller (same reason as book of moon. You can also in a pinch take your opponents monster too)

2 – Shrink (Being able to have your Firedog and Grunika deal with any moster with an attack of 3300 or lower and gain additional bonus from their effects. All I can say is just amazing)

What changes would you make? Let us know below.

Have you actually tested the changes that you made or are you basing it on ideas that you think would make it better? By the way you took 6 cards out and put seven in.

I am actually making the build for my next locals on Saturday. I was not able to get all the cards for this week.

Oh ok tell me how it does at the tourney. My email is

Cool bro. Can you tell me how it does?

Sure will. You planning to make a Flamvell deck too?

Well I’m not planning to, I already have :D . I love how they work and the combos that they can do. In fact I pretty much worship Rekindling for being one of the only cards that can give me a +3 or +4 in advantage. But anyways I’m just interested in the results of your changes to a top Flamvell player’s deck.

So, how’d it do?

Do you think if i put a honest in my flamvell deck would be good . My deck is really similiar to yours.
