Prepare For 2011 Nationals Deck Profile – Dimensional Fissure Gladiator Beast

Gladiator Beast War Chariot YuGiOh Card GameOne of the sleeper decks to look out for at nationals will be Gladiator Beast Decks. You see it has the power to adapt to a changing environment and that’s what allows them to stay competitive in any format. There’s a lot of different ways that you can build a Gladiator Beast Deck, and the strongest build will vary depending on the field around you. Since many of the top decks depend on their graveyard and monster effects, GB’s is a great surprise deck to play right now.

I believe the popularity of reborn tengu has something to do with the demise of Gladiator Beasts on the big competitive scene. You see reborn tengu can wipe out any Gladiator Beast weaker than Gladiator Beast Laquari, while making the Gladiator Decks defensive Traps useless.

The best way to address this weakness is to main deck extra monsters with high ATK. Meaning reling on Gladiator Beast Laquari and using multiple copies of Gladiator Proving Ground to search out the 1800 ATK Gladiator. This way you are sure to be able to get a copy when you need it.

Recent results for Gladiator Beast Decks in YCS events have been a bit disappointing. Some duelists may interpret it as a sign that Gladiators is a weak deck in the current game, while others just see it as evidence of a waning popularity for Gladiator Beasts. But no matter how Duelists are interpreting the lack of Gladiator Beasts at the top of big events, it might also mean that now, for nationals, is the perfect time for a resurgence of Gladiator Beasts.

Gladiator Beast Decks can secure victory against Plants with a simple lock using Gladiator Beast War Chariot and Gladiator Beast Equeste. It can even win without the War Chariot by using Gladiator Beast Retiari and Dimensional Fissure to remove key cards like Dandylion, Spore, and Glow-Up Bulb from the opponent’s Graveyard.

The ability for Gladiator Beast Bestiari to destroy Necrovalley after any battle makes the Gravekeeper’s Matchup favorable for Gladiator Beasts, and the low monster count in most Gladiator Beast Main Decks makes Gladiator Beasts relatively resilient to a first-turn Royal Tribute.

X-Saber Decks will struggle against Gladiator Beast Decks if the Gladiator Beast Duelist can continuously Recycle Gladiator Beast War Chariot with Gladiator Beast Equeste. Plus, the frequent defensive monster Sets (of monsters like xx saber darksoul and xx saber emmersblade) make X-Saber Decks vulnerable to easy tag-outs when those X-Sabers are attacked.

Six Samurais can be one of the tougher Matchups for Gladiator Beasts, but tech choices like Neo-Spacian Grand Mole and Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind will eliminate Legendary Six Samurai Shien to clinch an easy victory, even when the Six Samurai Duelist ends his first turn with Shi En on the field. Even without Grand Mole and Gale, Gladiator Beast Duelists can power through Shi En by using more Spell and Trap Cards than Shi En can negate. Once a Gladiator Beast Duelist gains the upper hand, it’s extremely tough for the Six Samurai Duelist to wrest control, given the explosive nature of the Six Samurai Deck and controlling qualities of Gladiator Beasts.

Gladiator Beast Retiari, Gladiator Beast Murmillo, Gladiator Beast Bestiari, Gladiator Beast Equeste, Gladiator Beast War Chariot, and the rest of the Gladiator Beasts and support cards, banded together to create the ultimate toolbox Deck. Gladiator Beasts have gotten a bad stigma, branding them as a lesser Deck in many competitive circles, but they can still consistently beat out the most popular Decks. They have the ability to control the entire Duel with their broad Trap lineups, and can easily stop opponents from advancing their fields. This is still true even with T.G. Hyper Librarian in the competitive fray. Gladiator Beast Decks can preempt or overcome the most vicious plays, making them a force to be reckoned with in any competitive environment.
