From the dueling capital in the United States of America, New York. Ladies and gentlemen LLLLLLLLLLLLLET’S GET READY TO RUMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE!!!!
In the dark corner we have the recently released secret rare from Generation Force, Steelswarm Roach. A Rank 4 Xyz monster that helps you keep control of any duel by negating the Special Summon of any level 5 or higher monster. This bug is ready to ruin your opponent’s strategy.
In the light corner we have the king of sting, released as a secret rare in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Manga Series 2, Thunder King Rai-Oh. A level 4 effect monster that helps you control what your opponent can get from their deck and can stop a special summon. This thunder monster is ready for action at your command.
Steelswarm Roach is the product of any 2 Level 4 monsters, so just about every deck can playing it.
Gadget Decks can Summon it by combining any 2 Gadgets, Gladiator Beasts can Summon it by combining Gladiator Beast Darius with a Level 4 Gladiator Beast that was Special Summoned by Darius’s effect, and Gravekeeper’s Decks can easily mix 2 copies of Gravekeeper’s Spy into a Steelswarm Roach.
Once Steelswarm Roach is summoned, it’s tough to squash. Even though it only has 1900 ATK, its effect gives it an amount of protection unmatched by any other Xyz Monster.
Most monsters that have more than 1900 ATK and are able to defeat Steelswarm Roach in battle need to be Special Summoned first. High-Level Synchro Monsters like T.G. Hyper Librarian, black rose dragon, and Stardust Dragon, for example, all have more ATK than Steelswarm Roach. So do powerful Effect Monsters like Cyber Dragon and Chaos Sorcerer. However, you can take down all of those monsters with Steelswarm Roach’s effect before they can even hit the field, just by detaching an Xyz Material from Steelswarm Roach!
But watch out for other Xyz Monsters after you Summon Steelswarm Roach! Since Xyz Monsters have Ranks instead of Levels, Steelswarm Roach can’t negate any of their Summons. Steelswarm Roach also can’t negate the effects of cards that start a Chain. For example, it can’t negate Monster Reborn or Call of the Haunted, since those 2 cards start a Chain. A monster revived by Monster Reborn or Call of the Haunted is safe from Steelswarm Roach’s reach, just as it would be safe from the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh.
Talking about Thunder King Rai-Oh, it’s a level 4 light effect monster that is very similar to Steelswarm Roach. It too has an atk of 1900 and can negate the special summon of a monster. So what makes this monster king of thunder?
Well first off he doesn’t need to have 2 lever 4 monsters to bring him out to the field. He is a level 4 monster, so he can just be normal summoned. Which in this environment is golden.
He also has an effect that just controls his opponent from getting extra cards from their deck. If what you are trying to do does not say “draw” on it, Thunder King Rai-Oh just jabs at them. Saying, “Oh no you don’t! Take that!”
Then not only does he jab at them he hit’s them with the might blow of negating ANY special summoned monster. Not just and level 5 or higher monster, like Steelswarm Roach. Any inhertiate summon is negated just by tributing himself. You can even negate the special summon of any Xyz monster too. Something Steelswarm Roach can’t do.
With so many moves Thunder King Rai-Oh has in him, I feel he truely is a king over the roach. He jabs at the roach and can TKO him if he tries to even step into the ring. So just for that Thunder King Rai-Oh wins over Steelswarm Roach.
