Starstrike Blast is the latest set, and as with every set there are cards that make a big impact to the game. Here are what I feel are the Top 5 Big Impact cards from Starstrike Blast.
Number 5: Tuning
Add 1 “Synchron” Tuner monster from your Deck to your hand. Then, send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard.
It’s a Reinforcement of the Army (ROTA) for Synchron monsters. When have you ever heard of a card replacing itself to be a bad card? Not only does it replace itself it also take another card out your deck and puts it in the graveyard. One less card for you to draw from your deck and in the right deck this can be a super bonus.
Tuning is a must have in any quickdraw deck. Get quickdraw and special summon it that same turn. Synchroing into something big, and putting 3-4 cards into the grave. Getting you that much closer to Pot of Avarice. Now that’s something I really don’t want to be on the other side of.
Number 4: Scrap Mind Reader
Type: Monster Property: Earth Machine/Tuner Level: 4
Once per turn, while this card is in your Graveyard during your Main Phase 2, you can select 1 face-up “Scrap” monster you control, except “Scrap Mind Reader”. Destroy that monster and Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. If you do, remove this card from play when it is removed from the field. If this card is used as a Synchro Material Monster, all other Synchro Material Monsters must be “Scrap” monsters.
Scraps have had some impressive top finishes at recent Regional Qualifiers & YCS’s. With those successes in the record books, you scrap duelists are getting a new world exclusive trick card. Scrap Mind Reader is a Level 1 Tuner with an effect that lets you Special Summon it from the Graveyard, so there are a lot of ways to bring it out of your Deck and into the Duel. One for One will Special Summon it straight from your Deck; Foolish Burial can send it to the Graveyard so you can use its effect; and you can Special Summon it with Scrap Chimera. This means you can now synchro summon for level 5, 6 and 9 synchro monsters.
Number 3: Glow-Up Bulb
Type: Monster Property: Plant/Tuner Level: 1
You can send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard and Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. You can only use this effect once per Duel.
Since Glow-Up Bulb is a Tuner Monster, it opens up a lot of cool strategies for you, some of which may not be immediately obvious.! The first thing you may notice is that it’s good in Plant Decks and anything that uses Lonefire Blossom.
It’s also fantastic in your Lightsworn Decks. Not only can Lightsworn send Plaguespreader Zombie to the Graveyard, but with a Glow-Up Bulb in your Deck, you can suddenly have access to 2 Tuner Monsters instead of the usual 1! Be ready to see this card being played a lot.
Number 2: Skull Meister
Type: Monster Property: Fiend/Effect Level: 4
During either player’s turn, when a card effect is activated in your opponent’s Graveyard, you can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard to negate the effect.
Whenever your opponent activates a card effect from their Graveyard, you can send Skull Meister straight from your hand to the Graveyard to negate it. Several top Decks use cards that Skull Meister can stop, so it’ll be a useful card to have in your Side Deck. Skull Meister’s effect can negate lots of nasty search effects, like that of Sangan and X-Saber Darksoul, to prevent your opponent from getting a free monster. Skull Meister can even prevent your opponent from Special Summoning a monster with Scrap Dragon, Dandylion Special Summoning 2 Fluff Tokens and Wulf, Lightsworn Beast from Summoning itself, so you’ll be able to use Skull Meister against almost any Deck!
Number 1: Psi Blocker
Type: Monster Property: Wind Psychic/Effect Level: 4
Once per turn, you can declare 1 card name. Cards with that name, and their effects, cannot be used until the End of your opponent’s next turn.
I feel this is the sleeper of this new set. Nobody is talking or hyping this card yet. Remember I said Yet!!!
During a Duel, there’s always a card that you’re hoping your opponent doesn’t have. It may be the same card on every turn, or vary depending on the situation. Psi Blocker adapts to any circumstance. Psi-Blocker lets you name a card, and forbids the use of that card and any of its effects until the end of your opponent’s next turn. This clutters your opponent’s hand and field with unusable cards, while giving you the security of making plays without fear. Since Psi Blocker lets you choose a different card to forbid each turn, you can pick a new card to shut your opponent out of the Duel as soon as your position changes.
Since it only has 1200 ATK, your opponent won’t be able to remove it from the game with Bottomless Trap Hole, and will need to resort to other ways of getting it off of the field. But with Psi-Blocker limiting the cards your opponent can use, that may be a challenge!
It’s a lot like the continuous spell card Prohibition, which allows a Duelist to name a card and prevents that card from being used. But Psi-Blocker’s ability to change the named card each turn, and the fact that its effect does not exclude cards already on the field makes it better-suited for tournament-level Main Decks, and more useful while developing tactics.
Do you now see why I think this is the best card of the set? Get them now before they go zooming up in price.
