Galactic Overlord is the latest set, and as with every set there are cards that make a big impact to the game. I know there are specific cards that are amazing for specific decks, like for Evol decks. That’s not what this list is about. This list is to show cards that can be used by everyone not type or deck specific. So here are what I feel are the Top 5 Big Impact cards from Galactic Overlord.
Now try saying that 5 times with out getting messed up.
Type: XYZ Monster Property: Light Dragon/Xyz/Effect Rank: 8
2 level 8 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Tribute any number of monsters from your hand and / or your side of the field, then destroy an equal number of cards on the field.
With 3000 ATK it’s a huge monster that will be hard to handle, but it also has a nice destruction effect. If you have monsters in your hand, a Gorz the Emissary of Darkness token, or used Flip Effect monsters, you can use Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord Of Heliopolis to turn them into kill cards! Also be on the look out for this from the new Hieratic decks that will be played. Lots of “Hieratic” monsters have effects that trigger when they’re Tributed, too, so Tributing them for Heliopolis’ ability will set off even more combos.
NUMBER 4: Gaia Dragon The Thunder Charger
Type: XYZ Monster Property: Wind Dragon/XYZ/Effect Rank: 7
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 or 6 Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing Battle Damage to your opponent.
Gaia Dragon The Thunder Charger has 2600 ATK, and deals piercing battle damage when it attacks a defense position monster, so it can really put in some pain to your opponent. What makes this so good is that you can summon it by using a used up rank 5 or rank 6 Xyz monster. So you get an upgrade boss monster for the price of an already used Tiras, Keeper of Genesis or Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon. So you may want to make room in your extra deck if you are playing with rank 5 or 6 monsters.
NUMBER 3: Night Beam
Type: Spell Property: Normal
Target 1 Set Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target. Your opponent cannot activate the targeted card in response to this card’s activation.
Any time a face-down Spell or Trap Card is targeted for destruction, there’s a chance that the targeted card will be Chained and its effect will activate before it gets destroyed. Night Beam not only destroys the card that it targets, but it also prevents that card from being Chained directly to Night Beam.
If you target Compulsory Evacuation Device with Night Beam, your opponent won’t be able to Chain his Compulsory Evacuation Device. It’ll be destroyed by Night Beam and your turn will continue. Be on the look out for this to be played more, now that priority is bye bye and more trap and spells are being played.
NUMBER 2: Cardcar D
Type: Monster Property: Earth Machine/Effect Level: 2
Cannot be Special Summoned. During your Main Phase 1, if this card was Normal Summoned during this turn: You can Tribute it; draw 2 cards, and enter your End Phase. You cannot Special Summon monsters during this turn.
Wow! You draw 2 cards, in exchange for practically your entire turn. It’s like Pot of Greed but with a great cost to play. Cardcar D works great with Pot Of Duality, allowing you to get the cards you need, then get 2 more cards to use on your next turn. It would work great in Decks with high trap counts, allowing you to get to a Mirror Force or Dimensional Prison to protect you up until your next turn.
Cardcar D is a good, splashable, easy to use card, and I personally think it’ll definitely see a lot of play.
NUMBER 1: Photon Strike Bounzer
Type: XYZ Monster Property: Light Warrior/Xyz/Effect Rank: 6
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn, during either player’s turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent’s side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effect, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.
This warrior has the ability to negate your opponents monster effects once per turn, even during thier turn, by just detaching just one Xyz Material. Since you need 2 level 6 monsters to Xyz, you can make two negations. This is a more controlled Evolzar Dolkka.
Just like Evolzar Dolkka, you can chain Photon Strike Bounzer’s effect when a monster effect is activated on your opponent’s side of the field. Photon Strike Bounzer will negate that effect and, if it succeeds, deal 1000 damage to your opponent. Now that 1000 damage can just win you the game. So keep a look out for this card and I’m sure you will find space for this card in your extra is you can Xyz rank 6.
These are cards I’m sure we are all going to see more often. I’m still trying to get me hands on a Photon Strike Bounzer.
