YuGiOh Cards To Fight The Mermail Deck

Mermail Abyssmegalo YuGiOh Card GameHave you been a victim to a mermail deck? Did you like the feeling of losing cards while your opponent searched for cards? I know I have been a victim and totally didn’t like the feeling. So here is a list of cards that will make sure you (and me) don’t ever have to feel that way again.

Now there are 2 version of the deck, Mono Mermail (no Genex Undine and Genex Controller) and Mermail Atlantean ( with Genex Undine and Genex Controller). Both decks want to gain card advantage while destroying your cards and bringing out a boss most in the process. The way they do all of this is by sendng cards to the graveyard. So guess what we need to do? That’s right make sure they can’t send cards to the grave.

Cards like Macro Cosmos, Dimensional Fissure and Banisher of the Radiance don’t allow your opponent to send cards from their hand to the grave. These cards will stop them from activating the in grave monster effects but also not allow them to summon their boss monsters (Mermail Abyssmegalo, Mermail Abyssteus or Mermail Abyssleed).

Those above cards are great if you are able to play them before your opponet can do anything. But if you don’t get any of those card, you can prevent the in grave monster effects from activating. Cards like Abyss Dweller and Soul Drain do just that. They may be able to bring out the boss monster, but at least they will not get to destroy one of your cards or search their deck for a card.

Being that their boss monsters need to be special summoned, that’s how they want to summon them, why not prevent them from being special summoned. Cards like Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and Vanity’s Fiend prevents them from just doing that. No more Deep Sea Diva into something horrible. You just got served Mermails!!!

They also like to spam the field with monsters. So if you can destroy thier monsters with mass removal, you will be in a good position. Cards like Torrential Tribute and Mirror Force do the trick. If they don’t have a way to get rid of your back row and try to go off, flip that Torrential Tribute to get rid of all those problems. Or let them go off and when they try to attack with everything, flip over that Mirror Force and say good-bye to all their monsters. Mass removal is great against this deck or any other aggresiv deck.

Now that you have a list of cards to use against the wet side of the force, go and use the ones that can work with your deck. Make sure you don’t just through some of these cards in your side or main and all of a sudden realize they hinder you just as much as your opponent.

Are there any other cards you can think of using? If so, leave a comment below with the card name(s). Keep playing good Yu-Gi’s!!!

Vanity’s Emptiness, Night Beam, Goblin of Greed

@Lyndsay – those cards are good cards too. No special summoning with vanity’s emptiness. I like night beam since they will not be able to activate the squall or sphere. Good choices. Which cards are you using?

[...] way since everyone is packing main deck or side deck hate for it. I even wrote an article “YuGiOh Cards To Fight The Mermail Deck“. But some how Oscar was able to fight through 2 days of dueling to become our new [...]

so based on the results of this last ycs its seems like the only real way to beat a mermail is with another mermail. the techs didnt stop anything

@Brandon – I think there these cards are good against them. Debunk is also a good card. But I feel even more than last format, who ever wins the die roll is in a better position to win the game.

3 Naturia Synchros ( beast, barkion, landoise)…. Easy to summon on karakuri or six sams… then add a bit of strategy and luck…
